Who I Am

My name is Jordan and I am a pre-veterinary student with a diverse skillset developed from my experiences as a veterinary professional.

From a very young age, I have always been fascinated with the animal kingdom and the beauty within. In my teenage years, I battled several health conditions that greatly impacted my personal and professional development at the time. I underwent several procedures, including two major hip surgeries by the age of 16. As a result, I hyper-focused on human medicine and the impact that misdiagnoses and certain interactions with medical professionals had on my life. I thought my calling was to pursue human medicine, to improve care, using my perspective as chronic a patient.

I entered my undergraduate degree in a Medical Sciences program, pursuing the route of medical school. I learned very early on that I did not want to limit my early studies solely to human medicine; at the end of my first year, I switched into the Biological Sciences major and declared a minor in Classics (the ancient world, specifically Greece and Rome).

Near the end of my third year (early 2022), I re-found my passion for animal care and was fortunate to secure a position as a Veterinary Assistant at Victoria Road Animal Hospital in Guelph, ON. From this point on, I have devoted my time to enhancing my knowledge and skillset within this field. I now work as a Veterinary Assistant in two animal hospitals (Victoria Road Animal Hospital and Main West Animal Hospital). In addition, I have worked at the Ontario Veterinary College in the Pathobiology department under the supervision of faculty veterinarian Dr. Claire Jardine for two summers now. I have experience in wildlife rehabilitation from my time volunteering at Procyon Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Centre for about a year. I have recently begun working at Everton Farms Equine where I am gaining profound knowledge on equine reproductive medicine through the care of broodmares and foals. I have over 100 hours of experience with pet sitting and thoroughly enjoy all that I do.

I will be applying to the Ontario Veterinary College in the near future to pursue a DVM degree. Throughout my journey, it is an honour to care for your pets, providing love, affection, and quality service so that you can be rest assured your loved ones are receiving only the best!

Certifications

I am certified in Pet First Aid by St. Johns Ambulance. This means that I am well equipped to deal with any emergent situations to stabilize a pet should need be.

I am also Fear Free certified which has taught me appropriate methods and approaches to veterinary care that can and will reduce fear, anxiety and stress of your beloved pet. Such an approach is important when performing procedures with your pets, like the nail trimming services offered.
